The Art of Interview : How to make the interviewer ask the questions, which you want him to ask you?

The Art of Interview
Killer Interview tips
How to make the interviewer ask the questions, which you want him to ask you?

Dear Reader,

Whenever you are about to give an interview you will always feel some goose bumps. First of all whenever you face an interview most likely the opening question would be – Tell me something about yourself OR Describe about yourself.  Normally we immediately start with our Name, educational qualifications, family, place and our experience.
Kindly notice that, all this information has already been provided, by you, to the interviewer, through your resume.
So, now what has to be answered about ourselves? Let’s take an example.

Example
INTERVIEWER : Tell me something about yourself?
CANDIDATE : I am a person with strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to get along with the people. I enjoy challenges and looking for creative solutions to problems.
OR
Besides the details given in my resume, I believe in character, values and action. I am quick in learning from mistakes. I am confident that the various tests that you have conducted will corroborate my competencies, aptitude and right attitude for the job.

What is the Best Way to answer this question?
The best technique to answer this question is to list your 3 positives and the demonstrator for each positive. Also tell them about your passion/qualities/hobbies/positives about “What you do outside work”. When you tell them about your passion then be passionate about it. You should know in and out of your activity. For e.g. if you love reading books then you should be able to tell about your last book read, favorite authors, best book, type of books you like etc.

So in short when you are asked about yourself you should tell like this
1)      Say who you are.
2)      Describe your Biggest strength for e.g. “leadership” or “team player”
3)      Explain what the benefit of that strength will be to the company.
4)      For Fresher’s -Tell the Interviewer what prompted you to pursue your present course and what all achievements you have accomplished till today.
5)      Now in the second part you should be able to explain about your skills, hobbies, interests and passions. Lastly explain how your keen interest in these activities have made you a keen learner/team player/leader/sharp observer/creative/analytical/logical etc. Tell them what your key skills are and validate it by giving practical e.gs. A list of major key skills are as follows :

·         People Management Skills
·         Time Management Skills
·         Interpersonal communication Skills
·         Business communication skills
·         Verbal Communication Skills
·         Organizational Skills
·         Strategic Thinking
·         Creative Thinking
·         Effective Listening Skills
·         Decision making Skills
·         Problem solving Skills
·         Negotiating skills
·         Teamwork Skills
·         Coaching/Teaching Skills
·         Risk Taking Ability
·         Responsibility
·         Critical thinking
·         Multi tasking
·         Diplomacy Skills
·         Perseverance & motivation skills
·         Ability to work under pressure
and the list goes on…..
Pick your choice and explain it.

For Freshers
A classic answer for this question would be as follows:-
INTERVIEWER: Tell me something about yourself?
Candidate: “I'm a full-time student studying  in ___________. My subjects in(Course Name) gives me a strong foundation to begin my career with XYZ company, and I'm excited to learn from the industry leaders here." Apart from learning the subjects I am a voracious reader of books. I like to read books from which I can learn the lessons of life and implement them in my routine to improve my people management skills. Recently I have read a wonderful book named “How to win friends and Influence people “ by Dale Carnegie. I really liked the entire book but one topic took my attention and that was –“How to get genuinely interested in people”.
Now dear friends what do you think the next question would be?
To be continued……….
ALL THE BEST!

How to Tackle HR Questions..!

6 beautiful HR Questions !!!

Here are some of the typical HR questions asked to find out if the candidates have "out of box" thinking capability

... Question 1:

"What will you do if I run away with your sister?"

The candidate who was selected answered " I will not get a better match for my sister than you, sir."

Question 2:

Interviewer (to a student girl candidate) - What if one morning you woke up & found that you were pregnant ?

I will be very excited and take a day off, to celebrate with my husband. (Normally an unmarried girl will be shocked to hear this, but she managed it well. Why should I think it in the wrong way, she said later when asked.)

Question 3:

Interviewer: He ordered a cup of coffee for the candidate. Coffee arrived and was kept before the candidate, then he asked "What is before you?"

Candidate: Instantly replied "Tea" and got selected.

(You know how and why did he say "TEA" when he knows very well that coffee was kept before him?.
Answer: The question was "What is before you U? (-alphabet). Reply was "TEA" T (- alphabet).

Question 4:

Where Lord Rama would have celebrated his "First Diwali"?

People will start thinking of Ayodya, Mithila [Janaki's place], Lanka etc...

But the logic is, Diwali was a celebrated as a mark of Lord Krishna Killing Narakasura. In Dusavataar, Krishnavathaar comes after Raamavathaar.

So, Lord Rama would not have celebrated the Diwali At all!

Question 5:

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night, it's raining heavily, when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for a bus:

An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
An old friend who once saved your life.
The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing very well that there could only be one passenger in your car?

This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application.

* You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first; * or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to ! pay him back. *
However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again...

The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming up with his answer. Guess what was his answer?

He simply answered:

"I would give the car keys to my Old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams."

Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought limitations. Never forget to "Think Outside of the Box."

Question 6:

The interviewer asked the candidate "This is your last question of the interview. Please tell me the exact position of the center of this table where u have kept your files."

Candidate confidently put one of his finger at some point at the table and said that this was the central point at the table. Interviewer asked "how did you decide that this is the central point of this table?", then he answers quickly that "Sir you are not supposed to ask any more question, as it was the last question as you promised .....

Soft Skills ....The Mystery Unfolded...

SOFT SKILLS

Before I explain why soft skills are important, let us understand what are soft skills?

Many of us would have come across the term soft skill some or the other times, but could not be able to understand what these skills are. When I take classes and open the topic with first question asking students, “What are Soft skills?”  I often come across many vague and sometimes funny statements.

Soft Skills is a sociological term relation to personality traits, social graces, communication, language, personal habits, friendliness and optimism.

In other words these are the skills which help us to develop good intrapersonal skills. We as humans have always faced problems in dealing with relationships in our life. Soft skills help us to develop skills that help to build better relationships personally and professionally. Soft skills are essentially people skills -- the non-technical, intangible, personality-specific skills that determine your strengths as a leader, listener, negotiator, and conflict mediator. "Hard" skills, on the other hand, are more along the lines of what might appear on your resume -- your education, experience and level of expertise.

While talking about the professional career of a person soft skill is an important part of their individual contribution to the success of an organization. Particularly those organizations dealing with customers face-to-face are generally more successful, if they train their staff to use these skills. Screening or training for personal habits or traits such as dependability and attention to details can yield significant return on investment for an organization. For this reason, soft skills are increasingly sought out by employers in addition to standard qualifications.

It has been suggested that in a number of professions soft skills may be more important over the long term than occupational skills. The sales profession is one example where the ability to deal with people effectively and politely, more than their mere occupational skills, can determine the professional success of a Sales Manager.

Increasingly, over the last two decades, it has been recognized that when IT Professionals acquire soft skills, better relationships are built between IT and the other business units within the enterprise. A key element of IT Professionals building these relationships is their ability to communicate, it has been suggested that communication is a measurable and improvable type of intelligence.

Soft Skills can be called behavioural skills. Also known as Interpersonal Skills, or people skills. This include proficiencies such as communication skills, anger management, and negotiation skills, personal effectiveness, problem solving, strategic thinking, team building, influencing skills and selling skills, interview skills etc.

Few years back, hard skills were thought to be all a person needed to be a successful leader. However, given the way the job market and employment roles have evolved, its become necessary for managers and for those in leadership roles to have a well rounded skill set.

Showcasing these attributes in your resume and again in an interview can put you ahead of the game making you someone to remember when it comes to picking the next executive or leader.

Soft skills give power to you and create opportunities.
The main benefit of soft skills is empowerment.
How does your technical skill transform to value?

A Dozen Steps to be taken to achieve SUCCESS

Twelve Essentials for Success

1. Work in a Diverse Environment
Learning from people who are different from you - and recognizing your commonalities - is an important part of your education and essential preparation for the world you will join.

2. Manage Time and Priorities
Managing how and on what you spend your time, demonstrates your ability to prioritize and spend your time wisely on the activities that will make you marketable in today’s market. Staying in control of your life is essential to your overall well-being.

3. Acquire Knowledge
Learning how to learn is just as important as the knowledge itself. You will continue to learn every day for the rest of your life. So it is important that you recognize the lessons that your experiences teach you. The liberal arts curriculum encourages life-long learning. Take advantage of your ability to take a variety of classes and get involved on campus. Learning about yourself is just as important about learning about a particular subject matter that interests you.

4. Think Critically
Employers value the ability to analyze a situation rationally. Developing solid critical thinking skills means you will have the confidence to handle autonomy and make sound decisions.

5. Communicate Effectively
Developing listening, interpreting and speaking skills is just as important as reading and writing. Become conscious of your speech patterns and habits. Respond to people by finding something unique in their ideas without only considering your personal experiences. Connect to what they are saying, not what you want to say in response.

6. Solve Problems
This is something we do naturally everyday; understand the process and mind-set of successful problem solving and you will more easily handle the bigger challenges that come your way.

7. Contribute to a Team
Your ability to work with others is vital. Know when to lead and when to follow, and appreciate different group dynamics.

8. Navigate across Boundaries
Life is filled with boundaries - good and bad. Discover how to avoid the boundaries that become barriers so that you do not hamper the ability to collaborate with other people. Also, learn how to create positive boundaries to boost communication among others.

9. Perform with Integrity
It only takes one negative event/interaction to destroy years of good faith and favorable relationships. It’s important to develop a code of ethics and principles to guide you through your life.

10. Develop Professional Competencies
The end of college is the beginning of a new education. Build on what you already know and keep learning new skills; no matter what career path you take, your job will challenge you to grow and develop in ways you haven’t imagined.

11. Balance Work and Life
You have a lot to accomplish in, essentially, only 24 hours.  Know when to say no and confidently stand by your decisions. Each person has his/her own needs and interests. Strive to meet your own expectations for a fulfilling collegiate and life experience.

12. Embrace Change
Just about every aspect of life is in a constant state of change. No matter how you feel about change, you have to learn to deal with it.

Company Profile

The story of one of India's favourite brands reads almost like a fairy tale. Once upon a time, in 1892 to be precise, a biscuit company was started in a nondescript house in Calcutta (now Kolkata) with an initial investment of Rs. 295. The company we all know as Britannia today.

The beginnings might have been humble-the dreams were anything but. By 1910, with the advent of electricity, Britannia mechanised its operations, and in 1921, it became the first company east of the Suez Canal to use imported gas ovens. Britannia's business was flourishing. But, more importantly, Britannia was acquiring a reputation for quality and value. As a result, during the tragic World War II, the Government reposed its trust in Britannia by contracting it to supply large quantities of "service biscuits" to the armed forces.

As time moved on, the biscuit market continued to grow… and Britannia grew along with it. In 1975, the Britannia Biscuit Company took over the distribution of biscuits from Parry's who till now distributed Britannia biscuits in India. In the subsequent public issue of 1978, Indian shareholding crossed 60%, firmly establishing the Indianness of the firm. The following year, Britannia Biscuit Company was re-christened Britannia Industries Limited (BIL). Four years later in 1983, it crossed the Rs. 100 crores revenue mark.

On the operations front, the company was making equally dynamic strides. In 1992, it celebrated its Platinum Jubilee. In 1997, the company unveiled its new corporate identity - "Eat Healthy, Think Better" - and made its first foray into the dairy products market. In 1999, the "Britannia Khao, World Cup Jao" promotion further fortified the affinity consumers had with 'Brand Britannia'.

Britannia strode into the 21st Century as one of India's biggest brands and the pre-eminent food brand of the country. It was equally recognised for its innovative approach to products and marketing: the Lagaan Match was voted India's most successful promotional activity of the year 2001 while the delicious Britannia 50-50 Maska-Chaska became India's most successful product launch. In 2002, Britannia's New Business Division formed a joint venture with Fonterra, the world's second largest Dairy Company, and Britannia New Zealand Foods Pvt. Ltd. was born. In recognition of its vision and accelerating graph, Forbes Global rated Britannia 'One amongst the Top 200 Small Companies of the World', and The Economic Times pegged Britannia India's 2nd Most Trusted Brand.

Today, more than a century after those tentative first steps, Britannia's fairy tale is not only going strong but blazing new standards, and that miniscule initial investment has grown by leaps and bounds to crores of rupees in wealth for Britannia's shareholders. The company's offerings are spread across the spectrum with products ranging from the healthy and economical Tiger biscuits to the more lifestyle-oriented Milkman Cheese. Having succeeded in garnering the trust of almost one-third of India's one billion population and a strong management at the helm means Britannia will continue to dream big on its path of innovation and quality. And millions of consumers will savour the results, happily ever after.
